Aaron Hughes, CEO of 6connect, Speaking at and Contributing IPv6 Best Practices to IGF

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will hold its 10th annual meeting in João Pessoa, Brazil from November 10-13 with the theme, “Evolution of Internet Governance: Empowering Sustainable Development”. 6connect’s CEO, Aaron Hughes, will be speaking on Friday and he has also been working on IPv6 Best Practices documents in preparation for the conference.

“Participation at the IGF is essential for outreach and education with all stakeholders in the internet governance ecosystem. Being here allows us to assist in driving the evolution of Internet governance and share our experiences with those who can benefit from them most,” says Hughes. “We also get a chance to learn about what’s happening in the wider internet community we don’t normally reach at operator, policy and peering forums.”

IGF at the United Nations is an open, global forum where different participants from a number of stakeholder groups – governments, the technical community, civil society, academia, and the private sector – discuss Internet Governance (IG) and policy issues. The Best Practice Forums (BPFs) at the IGF seek to collect, discuss, and disseminate the different “best practices” used by people and organizations around the world for different Internet Governance and policy issues. These provide opportunities for everyone to learn from each other by sharing experiences. Hughes will be speaking about this in a 90-minute session on Wednesday, November 11th. This will canvas three case studies, and address public comments provided via the IGF’s open, public platform, on their draft outcome documentHighlights of the team’s work include an overview of IPv6 adoption, why it’s better to adopt IPv6 now, hurdles to IPv6 adoption, the role of the end user and consumer in IPv6 adoption, and tracking measurements.

Hughes will be speaking on Friday, November 13th from 12pm-1pm as part of an Open Forum which will talk about the Numbering Community: how the number community has developed policies for the management and distribution of IP resources; how it has lead the deployment of technologies that use such resources, i.e. IPv6; and it will also introduce some of their efforts in producing a proposal for the transition of the stewardship of the IANA numbers function. Hughes will provide an update on community efforts for IPv6 deployment including what we are seeing in services providers and enterprises around the region. Other panelists include Lito Ibarra, Nicolás Antonielo, Janvier Noulaye, and Izumi Okutani.

This conference is also available for participation through the conference hashtag #IGF2015 or via a live stream.
